Every day we are bombarded with demands and expectations in both our professional and personal lives. When we are faced with all of these stressors, how do we work to improve ourselves? How do we grow and make an impact on others’ lives?
On May 20th, hear from Manley Feinberg about taking charge of your life and leading with impact by getting out of your comfort zone. PRSA had a chance to talk with Manley about insights he’ll share in his presentation and how getting out of your comfort zone will help you reach your full potential.
Q: Why is it is important for people to get out of your comfort zone?
A: Most people can agree that they have not yet reached their full potential. This often happens because we have so many obligations at work and home. By getting out of our comfort zones, we can have a greater influence on those around us and better meet the expectations and demands we face on a daily basis.
Q: How can getting out of your comfort zone propel your career?
A: Most people who go to work every day have one of four goals: to stand out, to do more every day, to get promoted or to enjoy life more. By intentionally getting out of our comfort zone, you will achieve these goals, contribute more value to your employer and stand out in the workplace.
Q: What everyday tips can you share that will help others make an impact?
A: The key is to declare a single effort that will make an impact and work on it every day. Here are three strategies to help achieve your goals.
- Visibility drives velocity – Post notes around your house and office with your goals. Seeing what you’ve declared will help you stay focused.
- Set a timer – Move forward a little bit every day. Even five minutes can help your progress build momentum.
- Start the day off right – Make your goal a routine and do it first before the day gets away from you.
Q: How do you personally get out of your comfort zone?
A: I clearly identify areas of my life that I’d like to improve. Then I find people who are the best in the world at that one thing and get as close to them as possible. That could be though meeting them, listening to a presentation or even reading their book.
